1) Registration

First, please Register on the MCPF(CWB) web page. Select "Registration" and register as an "HKUST user". Fill in the requested details on the form. Only @ust.hk and @connect.ust.hk e-mails can be registered as an HKUST user.
Please be reminded to use the same department of your MCPF(CWB) User Account as your supervisor to facilitate our administration of the job back charges.
For HKUST(GZ) and NAMI users, registration is not required, please download and submit the external work request form.
For non-faculty member, supervisor's information must be included. For faculty, please repeat your own information as supervisor information.
An e-mail will be automatically sent to your registered e-mail address, informing your login name and the system generated password. Login to the system again with the password and update your account information if necessary (e.g. change your password).

2) Submitting a Job Request

Login to MCPF(CWB) website, click on “Request a Job”

Select the "Category" of your reuquested techniques and then fill in the details requested on the form. The account number should be a valid HKUST account number or project number for back charges purpose by the Finance Office.
Please select the correct "Fund Source", the charge rate is depending on your "Fund Source". Please consult your supervisor if you are not clear about the "Fund Source".

After clicking “Submit job,” the form will be validated. If any fields are incomplete, you’ll receive an error message. A confirmation with a summary of your work request will be displayed on screen upon successful submission.

If you are not a faculty member, a copy of your submitted work request will also be sent to your supervisor via email.

3) Processing a Job Request

After submission, the request is queued in the MCPF(CWB) database. MCPF(CWB) staff will review the request and determine whether it can be accepted. You will receive an e-mail acknowledgement from mcpf @ ust.hk, indicating acceptance or providing the reason for rejection.
Please read the email carefully, as it contains important information.

Please contact the Project Coordinator/Project Member first to arrange time for discussions and the experiment/training.

4) MCPF Equipment Booking

If you are authorized to independently use MCPF equipment after your first experiment, you can then book time slots for the instrument(s) you are qualified for via the MCPF(CWB) web page. For booking, you must have a current job request for the instrument(s) you want to book and the it must be within ONE MONTH.

Please login to the MCPF(CWB) system and select "My Jobs/Booking", a list of your current jobs will be displayed. Select the job and book the time slots you desire.

In case you are authorized BUT cannot book the equipment, please send an email to the Project Coordinator/Project Member.

5) Closing a Job Request

The Job Request is valid for ONE month. After completion, MCPF will automatically send an email to you and your supervisor. The email will include information on total equipment time, operator time, consumables used, and applicable charges.

6) Forgetting password

Visit the MCPF(CWB) web page and click “forget password.” Request the system to send your password to your email account. If you don't know the login name, please send an email to MCPF@ust.hk.

7) Policy Regarding UG student

Due to safety concerns, MCPF(CWB) cannot accept work requests directly from UG students. If a UG student must work in MCPF(CWB), a PG or research staff member should submit the work request. The accompanying staff member will be responsible for the UG student’s safety.

External Users

Users outside HKUST are also welcome to use MCPF(CWB) services. When such services are needed, please download a MCPF work request form in PDF format and return the duly filled form back to MCPF(CWB) by fax at (852) 2358 2451 or by e-mail to mcpf@ust.hk. MCPF staff will contact the user to arrange time for discussion and experiment.
After a work request is completed, MCPF will inform our HKUST RandD Corporation Ltd and they will send an invoice to the user. The user can pay the services by cheque made payable to "HKUST RandD Corporation Ltd" according to the payment instructions given in the invoice.
